National Debtline has today launched a Welsh language version of their guide that helps people deal with problem debt. The free ‘How to deal with debt’ guide takes people in debt through the steps they need to take to deal with their financial situation.

Supported by the Welsh Government, the Welsh language version of the guide has been developed by the Money Advice Trust, the charity that runs National Debtline.

The Welsh language version is available free to order for both advice agencies and anyone in debt in Wales. The guide is designed to be usable on its own by providing the steps individuals needs to take to help put the person using the guide in the best position to deal with their debts.

The ‘How to deal with debt’ guide uses behavioural science techniques to break information into smaller, more manageable individual tasks to make the overall goal feel more achievable.

The English-language version of the guide is available to order for free and money advice agencies in Wales can order the guide in bulk here.

Anyone ordering a guide will also receive a National Debtline Coronavirus fact sheet that provides information on dealing with the financial impact of the outbreak.

The Deputy Minister and Chief Whip, Jane Hutt stated:

“We know and understand that this Covid-19 pandemic is causing additional strain and burden on household income right across Wales, and that the consequences for people left struggling with debt can have a long-term negative impact.

“That’s why I’m delighted that we have supported the Welsh Language version of the Money Advice Trust’s ‘How to Deal with Debt Guide’. We hope this guide will be a help to those people across our nation as they start to put their finances back on track.”

Joanna Elson CBE, chief executive of the Money Advice Trust, the charity that runs National Debtline, said:

“We are delighted to launch the Welsh language version of our ‘How to deal with debt’ guide - we hope this resource helps people in financial difficulty and at what is a challenging time for so many.

“Struggling with problem debt can be a really difficult experience. For anyone worried about their finances it is important to know that help is out there. Our guide is designed to help by taking people through the steps they need to take to deal with their situation.

“I would also encourage anyone concerned about their debts to seek free, debt advice from a charity such as National Debtline as soon as possible.”

The Welsh language ‘How to deal with debt guide’ is available here and can be ordered by money advice agencies here.
