Money Advice Trust named ‘Debt advice provider of the year’

6 November 2020

The Money Advice Trust, the charity that runs National Debtline, Business Debtline and Wiseradviser, has been named ‘Debt advice provider of the year’ at this year’s Credit Awards.

The award recognised the work of the charity to improve outcomes for people in debt across its National Debtline and Business Debtline advice services and through its Wiseradviser programme that trains the free debt advice sector.

Entrants for the award were asked to demonstrate the positive impact of their work on the people they help. As a result of the Trust’s work:

  • 9 in 10 National Debtline clients’ debts reduced or stabilised
  • 3 in 4 Business Debtline clients continue to trade as a result of our advice

Whilst as a result of Wiseradviser training:

  • 95% of advisers surveyed felt better at helping people with debt problems
  • 97% were helped to do their job
  • 9 in 10 said Wiseradviser training helped them improve outcomes for their clients

It was a night of double success with chief executive, Joanna Elson CBE receiving this year’s ‘Outstanding contribution’ award.

Dave Cheadle, chief operating officer at the Money Advice Trust, said:

“We are delighted to have been named ‘Debt advice provider of the year’ at the Credit Awards. This award is recognition of the outstanding work the team does across the board, from our advisers, who make a positive impact to the lives of the people we help on a daily basis, through to our Wiseradviser training that supports our staff and the wider free debt advice sector.

“At a time when millions of people are facing a challenging financial future as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, our advice and training services will be needed more than ever. We will continue to innovate and adapt to ensure our services best support people to tackle their debts.”
