PRESS RELEASE

10/5/10

Money Advice Trust boosts its Governance

The Money Advice Trust (see notes to editors) is delighted to announce the appointment of three new Trustees to complement the skills and experience of its current board.

Mike Barley, Martyn Gimber and Judith Mortimer Sykes become MAT Trustees, supporting the Trust’s vision of reducing unmanageable debt in the UK in the years ahead.

Mike Barley has over 30 years experience in financial services, and was Chief Executive of commercial lending at Close Brothers Ltd, and had spells working for Abbey National and Wagon finance. He has also been a non executive Director and Treasurer of the National Autistic Society.

Martyn Gimber has over 25 years of experience in social housing, most recently as Chief Executive of North Devon homes, as well as being a Governor at North Devon College.

Judith Mortimer Sykes has worked in the financial services industry for 28 years, most recently at the Nationwide Building Society as head of lending control, where she was responsible for all collections and recoveries. Judith is a Governor at Northampton College and a committee member of the Women’s Careers Foundation.

Brian Pomeroy, Chair of HMT’s Financial Inclusion Taskforce, stood down from the Trustee Board in December 2009 after ten years as a Trustee. He joins Liz Barclay, well-known radio broadcaster and former CAB money adviser, as an Ambassador for the Trust.

The Trust's Chair, Martin Hall, welcomed the appointments:

‘We were delighted that so many very well qualified people responded to our search for new Trustees, and that Mike, Martyn, and Judith have accepted our invitation to serve on the Trust's board.  Their extensive experience and skills will help us advance our aims at a time when more people than ever need the services we provide, and the challenge of funding has never been greater.’

-Ends-
