Money Advisers work with lenders to give long term support to those in financial difficulty.

National debt advice charity National Debtline (part of Money Advice Trust, see note to editors) announced today that 90% of callers to the helpline have been able to maintain affordable new payment arrangements with their lenders. (For further details please see note to editors.) 83% of callers felt more knowledge, more in control of their finances so less likely to be in a similar situation. More

Debt and mental health: what is the evidence?
The Royal College of Psychiatrists, backed by the Finance and Leasing Association and the Money Advice Trust have joined forces to commission a research project which will examine the relationship between debt and mental health problems, with the aim of improving knowledge and practice within the advice, lender and healthcare sectors. Money advisers and creditors working together to help people in debt

On 16th of June, the Money Advice Trust (MAT), the British Bankers’ Association (BBA) and the Finance and Leasing Association (FLA) will re-launch an improved and updated version of the Common Financial Statement (which standardises the way money advisers and creditors communicate with each other about repayment offers). This will help more people in debt to resolve their difficulties more quickly and easily. More.
Charity urges action on repossession
Thursday 14th May 08Today Joanna Elson CEO of the Money Advice Trust (see note to editors) will meet with the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Yvette Cooper MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Kitty Ussher MP and Housing Minister Caroline Flint MP, to discuss what extra support can be provided to home owners facing financial difficulty. The meeting will include representatives from key debt advice agencies and consumer groups. Today the Money Advice Trust (see note to editors) launches a new online resource foragencies working with people with debt and mental health problems. The web page provides access to practical guidance documents that MAT has contributed toand/or supported, including the Money Advice Liaison Group (MALG) Mental Health Awareness Guidelines, designed to encourage good practice by creditors, money/debt advisers and health and social care workers in relation to working with people with debt and mental health problems.
