Who can apply for grants?

We understand that we cannot cover every situation. If after reading this list you are still not sure if you can apply, please email Emily Hopkins on grants@moneyadvicetrust.org or phone her on 020 7653 9734.

  • We will only provide grants for projects in the UK.

  • We will only accept applications from formally constituted organisations (for example, organisations with a governing document setting out the organisation’s purposes and how they are run).
  • We provide grants to a range of organisations. Your organisation does not need to be a registered charity for you to apply for a grant. However, we can only support work which is legally defined as ‘charitable’ (for example, work which is for the public benefit and falls into the categories described by the Charity Commission).
  • Your projects must help achieve our aim for reducing debt in the UK.

We will not provide grants for:

  • the costs of providing money and debt advice;
  • work which does not involve reducing poverty as a result of being in debt;
  • work which does not teach people how to manage their personal finances;
  • individuals;
  • other organisations that provide grants;
  • general appeals;
  • schools or other educational establishments (except if you are carrying out activities to help people manage their debt);
  • churches or other religious organisations where they will use the money for religious purposes;
  • hospitals;
  • projects which have already taken place;
  • building work;
  • statutory bodies ( for example, organisations paid for by the government such as local authorities);
  • political parties;
  • political lobbying (trying to persuade people to vote for a particular political party or issue);
  • organisations who want a grant to top up underpriced contracts; or
  • work outside the UK.

Can I apply for a grant if you have already refused my application?

If we refuse your application, we will not normally consider another application you make for at least a year. There may be exceptions to this, for example if we have specifically encouraged you to apply again, or if your second application is for a different project. If you are considering applying again, please contact Emily Hopkins on grants@moneyadvicetrust.org or phone her on 020 7653 9734.
